How to Create a Family Timeline on Histolines: Step-by-Step Guide
- Register and Log In
Start by creating an account on Histolines. Once registered, log in to begin posting and building your family timeline. - Open the Timeline for the First Person
In the site’s ribbon, find the “Pick a Name” area. Type the name of the person you want to begin with (it could be a family member or ancestor). After typing the name, click “Go to page for [name]” to open their timeline. - Post the First Event
Once you’re on the person’s timeline (which may be empty if they are new), click “Post Event”.
- Start with something simple, like their birthday.
- In the “What happened” field, select an appropriate event from the suggested options, like “Was born.”
- Add a date or at least the year of the event.
This is how you create a regular post on the timeline. Now, let’s add this event to a family timeline!
2. Add the Event to a Family Timeline
- Before posting the event, click “Advanced Inputs”.
- In the advanced options, you’ll find a field to add the family name. Enter the family name here.
- After that, hit “Add” to save the post.
3. View the Post in the Family Timeline
- Refresh the page, and you’ll see the newly added post on the person’s timeline.
- Click the three dots on the post and select the “Family” tab. Here, you can view which families the post belongs to.
4. Add the Event to Multiple Families
- A single event can belong to multiple families. To add it to another family, simply go back to the “Family” tab, and add a second family name.
5. Add Existing Posts to a Family Timeline
If you have an existing post on a timeline that you want to link to a family timeline, click the three dots on that post, go to the “Family” tab, and add the event to a family, just like in the earlier steps.
6. Managing and Viewing Family Timelines
Once you’ve started a family timeline, you can access it directly from any post linked to the family. You can also find it under the “List of Families” section.
- When you go to the family timeline page, any event you add from there will automatically be linked to that family, making the process even easier!

Here’s a short video demonstrating this process. (Include your video link here).
